Do I need a leaning post on my boat?
Any experienced boat angler knows that a leaning post is much better than having regular seats at the helm. It allows you to run the boat from both standing and sitting positions, lets you to easily slide out from behind the helm to jump into the fishing action, and can support a number of accessories that are helpful for anglers. Whether you are looking to replace a worn-out leaning post or upgrade a regular seat to the real thing, you may have noticed that there aren’t many high-quality aftermarket leaning posts out there – and even fewer that are reasonably priced. That’s why Fishmaster created a line of leaning posts to fit any anglers' needs or budget.
Which leaning post goes with my Fishmaster T-Top?
Both Pro Series Leaning post options are crafted to complement the Pro Series T-Top with a matching curvature style and bone white powder coat finish for maximum corrosion resistance. The Original Leaning post is made to accompany the Original T-Top.
What are the Fishmaster leaning posts made of?
Pro Series: Your first concern, of course, is how well the Fishmaster Pro Series Leaning Post is built. We’re no strangers to crafting framework out of top-notch 2.25-inch diameter anodized 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, which has been heat-treated to ensure maximum strength and corrosion-resistance, because that’s the same material we use in our T-tops. Added bonus: this grade of aluminum also provides a slick-looking, radiant finish. The 28- and 32-ounce marine-grade vinyls used in the seat cushion and backrest have been ASTM G21-tested for mildew resistance (ensuring they meet industry standards for marine use).
Original: Thanks to our long history building Fishmaster T-tops, we know all about working with high-end anodized 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, which has been heat-treated to ensure maximum strength and corrosion-resistance while also providing a radiant finish. The Leaning Post’s structure is crafted from the same top-notch aluminum, with 1.9-inch diameter legs.
Can I fit a cooler underneath the Fishmaster leaning posts?
Yes! The Pro Series and Original Leaning Posts are constructed to create space for a cooler underneath, but the cooler sizes differ.
Pro Series: The Pro Series Leaning Post allows for a cooler with dimensions up to 33 1/8” W or 96 Quarts to securely fit underneath.
Original: Our Original Leaning Post fits a 72 Quart cooler up to 31 1/2" W underneath.
What happens when the leaning post seat gets wet?
Both Fishmaster Leaning Posts have a seat cushion that’s contoured just like automotive seats, with 2.75-inch-thick closed-cell “flow-through” foam (which means water can drain right through it, so you don’t get soaked when you sit on it first thing in the morning or after a downpour) in the center. On the sides foam thickness increases to 4.0 inches, in the wings. That foam is wrapped with 28- and 32-ounce heavy-duty marine-grade vinyl, which has been tested to ASTM G21 (marine industry standard) specs for mildew resistance, and treated with UV inhibitors.
Why do I need helm seating on my center console?
Long runs in choppy waters can wear an angler out. A leaning post gives you added support at the helm for tired legs, providing a much needed place for rest during a long day on the water. Leaning posts at the helm also give the captain a spot to get a full field of vision. Controls are at the center console as well, so the leaning post puts you in the middle of the action. Another popular benefit from leaning posts is that it creates a space to secure a cooler.
Can I add any accessories?
Even in its most basic forms our leaning post includes the same sturdy framework, a flip-down footrest, and the seat cushion, but with the Pro Series leaning post there’s a lot more to look at. The Pro Series Deluxe Model includes a cushioned backrest so running the boat from a seated position is more comfortable, and that backrest supports four gimbaled fishing rod holders plus three 316-grade stainless-steel cupholders. It also provides a grab rail for your passengers. Our leaning posts come pretty stocked "as is", but stay tuned as we continue to make new accessories available!
Are the leaning posts easy to install on a boat?
One of the best things about our Fishmaster Leaning Posts is how simply and easily they can be installed. You could take your boat to a pro and have the installation done for you, but truth be told, all you’ll need to install one of these posts is a drill, a screwdriver and screws, and 3M 5200 Adhesive/Sealant. In fact, even for someone who’s not incredibly handy, installation should take no more than a couple of hours!
